Nine ways a Deal becomes a character.

These are compact examples, not required packages. Use them to see how Profession, Grant, Facets, manifestation, and Deal pressure can reinforce one another from level one through level twelve.

Build math: Profession Rank plus Grant investments equals Character Level. Level one begins at Profession Rank 1, before any later Grant investments.

Reference roster

Build outward from one idea

The important pattern is coherence. Each added ability should feel like another use of the same Grant, not a second power pasted beside it.

Level01

Foundation build

Mournbell

ProfessionEnforcer 1GrantChannelGrant investments0

An armored bellman who releases a single concussive funeral note from his mouth.

At the table

He holds the front line and fires thunder through clear paths. Silence, solid cover, and dense barriers stop the note.

Deal pressure

Clear his executed partner’s name, and toll the true name of anyone who dies because of that pursuit.

Recognized by

Brass teeth and a mouth as dark as the inside of a bell.

What this build shows

A complete level-one character only needs a clear Profession, a narrow Scope, and one repeatable Expression.

Level03

Foundation build

Side-Door Sella

ProfessionOperator 2GrantPassage / VeilGrant investments1

A burglar who crosses between doors she personally opened inside the same continuous structure.

At the table

She enters through one threshold, appears at another, and leaves pursuers briefly uncertain where she went.

Deal pressure

Free her sister from a debtor prison. One day, she must leave one particular door unlocked without asking why.

Recognized by

Black hinges form at her joints while her shadow swings open ahead of her.

What this build shows

A Facet can add stealth to supernatural movement without creating a second unrelated Grant.

Level05

Developed build

Casket Jack

ProfessionMaker 3GrantCraftGrant investments2

A master cabinetmaker whose supernatural containers capture, preserve, and release what crosses their boundaries.

At the table

A Pallbox stores an impact, a Hush Casket traps sound, and a Wake Nail remembers who disturbed a sealed container.

Deal pressure

Preserve his daughter through the glass fever, then build a casket for an occupant whose measurements never stay fixed.

Recognized by

Hinged knuckles and sealed devices that expand and contract as though breathing.

What this build shows

A Profession can support a thematically similar Grant without replacing it. Maker training is practical; Craft makes the impossible device personal.

Level06

Developed build

Velvet Knife

ProfessionStitcher 3GrantSeal / WitnessGrant investments3

A field surgeon who sees anatomical seams and can close one by touching exposed skin or fresh blood.

At the table

She identifies a vulnerable joint, marks it by contact, then slows a leg or weakens the arm using it.

Deal pressure

Discharge the inherited Mark consuming her brother. Anyone she marks for death must never die alone.

Recognized by

Silver stitches move beneath her skin and appear across every joint she Seals.

What this build shows

Seal supplies contact delivery while Witness supplies the information needed to choose the right contact.

Level07

Developed build

Mothmouth

ProfessionSpeaker 4GrantSovereign / VeilGrant investments3

An agitator who folds statements she personally hears into temporary paper moths.

At the table

Her moths scout, repeat one sentence exactly, distract an enemy, or fill a space with enough voices to conceal an ally.

Deal pressure

Expose the debt courts selling verdicts, and never let an earnest secret die with its speaker.

Recognized by

Paper scales gather around her throat while a fluttering darkness fills her open mouth.

What this build shows

Servants and concealment can remain one coherent Grant when both grow from the same captured voices.

Level09

Developed build

Red Route

ProfessionPursuer 4GrantWitness / ClaimantGrant investments5

A tracker who sees the routes created by conscious intention and places supernatural junctions across them.

At the table

He reads where his Quarry means to go, claims a choke point, and punishes the target for following its chosen route.

Deal pressure

Find his missing father, then deliver him to the destination he was trying to escape.

Recognized by

Red transit lines cross his eyes and branch down his neck.

What this build shows

A perceptive Grant can develop area control when the claimed territory is made from information it already reveals.

Level10

Potent build

Notary Ash

ProfessionScholar 4GrantBreach / Witness / ChannelGrant investments6

A supernatural examiner who sees active Grant effects as temporary contractual clauses.

At the table

Ash observes a power, identifies one operating rule, then sends burning script to redact or exploit that rule for a moment.

Deal pressure

Annul the inherited obligation consuming his family’s memories, and record every broken Promise he witnesses.

Recognized by

Contract script scorches across his hands and climbs his arms when the opposing Grant is dangerous.

What this build shows

Several Facets still feel like one power when every ability obeys the same act of reading and revising supernatural terms.

Level12

Apex build

Kilnback

ProfessionBreaker 3GrantVessel / Claimant / PassageGrant investments9

A load-bearing giant who absorbs and redistributes structural strain through connected masonry.

At the table

He grows brick armor, roots into foundations, reshapes dangerous ground, and travels through connected stonework.

Deal pressure

Save a condemned neighborhood, then surrender the deed, address, and public memory of one building he preserved.

Recognized by

Cracked ceramic plates at rest; brick, glowing mortar, drainpipes, and roofline at full power.

What this build shows

Durability, territory, and movement can share one Grant when every expression follows the same structural-load Scope.
